Last week, the United States Ambassador to Latvia Christopher Robinson visited SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” to meet with LDz Chairman of the Board Rinalds Pļavnieks and Member of the Board Vita Balode-Andrews to discuss the impact of international sanctions on the transport industry, LDz development and current projects, as well as the role of railways in national security and defence.
During the meeting, LDz Chairman of the Board Rinalds Pļavnieks and Board Member Vita Balode-Andrews acquainted the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Christopher Robinson with LDz’s position in international freight transport corridors, countries of origin of the freights and changes in freight volumes, as well as current challenges in freight transport faced by LDz due to the international sanctions and geopolitical situation.
LDz Chairman of the Board Rinalds Pļavnieks: “During the meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia we discussed a wide range of issues, including the role of railway infrastructure in national security and in emergency situations, as well as the possibility of further involvement of SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” in EU and NATO military mobility. The eventual reconstruction of Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, including rolling stock, and the opportunity for Latvijas dzelzceļš Group to participate in this ambitious process were also discussed."
