On 8 January 2008 JSC Sampo Banka signed a contract with SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš on provision of long-term credit of 18.300.000 EUR. Credit term is 5 years and its objective is to modernize and develop railway infrastructure, to purchase 100 container-fitting platforms and to do overhaul of diesel locomotives.
Several credit banks participated in the open tender that was announced by SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš.
The offer of Sampo Banka was the most favourable economically. According to the terms of tender opening of the offers took place on 14 December 2007.
Uģis Magonis, Chairman of the Board of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš, expressed his opinion on the tender by highlighting that he is satisfied with positive estimation of the companie`s economic activity and its financial stability in the financial market, as well as with Sampo Banka which is ready to credit significant projects for railway development.
Raivis Kakānis, Chairman of the Board of JSC Sampo Banka, said: “We are truly gratified about the opportunity to finance infrastructure modernization of Latvijas dzelzceļš which is one of the biggest companies in Latvia. Thus we make a contribution in the development of transport sector in Latvia. Besides, this is the biggest credit Sampo Banka has ever given to any company in Latvia till now.”
