According to information on the amount of freight carried in January 2008 LDz Cargo Ltd., subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš has become the leader in freight transportation among the Baltic States.
In January 2008 LDz Cargo Ltd. has carried 5.043 million tons of freight, which has increased by 37.1% compared to the same time period of 2007. JSC Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) in January 2008 has carried 4.8 million tons of freight, which has increased by 21% compared to 2007. On the contrary, JSC Eesti Raudtee (Estonian Railways) in January 2008 has carried 2.61 million tons, which has decreased by 40% compared to the same time period of 2007.
At the beginning of 2007 the leader in freight transportation among the Baltic States was JSC Estonian Railways.
