In 2011 State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz) received the Authorised Economic Operator (AEOF) certificate from the customs authority (State Revenue Service). It confirms that LDz complies with the European Commission requirements, and, therefore, benefits from simplifications in the customs procedures in the whole European Union.
The AEO status is given to the companies that have gained respect for high reliability and have properly arranged the processes within the organisation. If the company holds this status it benefits from simplifications provided for under the customs rules and facilitations of customs controls relating to security and safety.
“Considering into account the high requirements which have to be met in order to receive the certificate, we are very satisfied that LDz is one of those few companies in Latvia that holds this certificate. For us it is not only a sign of recognition. It will considerably facilitate our work, because we are very much dependent on customs procedures. We hope that it will enhance our competitiveness,” said LDz President Uģis Magonis.
The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Latvia is also satisfied that LDz obtained AEO certificate, because it is very important for the customs authorities that companies are aware of the risks connected with customs clearance and take the necessary actions to prevent the possible risks concerning security and customs offence.
