Entrance ticket – children’s drawing or old suitcase
Within the framework of the anniversary month of Latvijas dzelzceļš Latvian Railway History Museum will be open on Wednesday evenings until 21.00 and will provide a special anniversary program from 17.00. In the second railway museum evening on 15 July the group Hospitāļu iela will give a musical performance to the visitors and railway employees, but before and after the concert there will be different rail-related activities for children and adults.
Between the fans of the group Hospitāļu iela there are also railwaymen – both the railway employees and railway travelers… This time the group itself goes to visit its fans in Railway Museum. “We will come to the museum to give greetings to railway employees and to try how it is to sing on the platform,” said Edgars Šubrovskis, a leader of the group. “For sure we will also take a look to the new old locomotive,” he added.
600 mm narrow gauge steam locomotive Ml-657 was manufactured in 1918 in Germany. The locomotive is the latest museum exhibit and its presentation that took place on 8 July in Latvian Railway History Museum was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Latvijas dzelzceļš. The locomotive was put into operation in 1923, when it was included in the stock of Latvian state railways and was given a name Ml-657. The locomotive had several operational places, among them also Viesīte rural railway network. After retiring it was fully restored and put in the museum; now it is available for examination.
After viewing Ml locomotive and outdoor exhibits – locomotives and wagons, the children are invited to go to “Little railwaymen house” to jump on inflatable train, draw, play rail-related games together with Peppy, view a railway model in operation (at 18.00) and to participate in “Security hours” (at 18.30 and 20.00). The adults will have a chance to play a photo orientation game specially prepared for this evening (rules and applying www.railwaymuseum.lv ).
In the anniversary month on Wednesday evenings from 17.00 until 21.00 Latvian Railway History Museum invites the friends – both adults and children – to celebrate together the 90th anniversary of Latvijas dzelzceļš and to participate in activities organized by railway employees. All month until 5 August in Riga central station and Jelgava railway station will be displayed photo exhibitions.
Entrance fee to all museum events:
- A children’s drawing – greetings to Latvijas dzelzceļš, or
- A present to the museum – old suitcase, which will be used for the renewed baggage wagon collection, or
- Answering to five catch questions about railway history, or
- Entrance ticket – 1 LVL for adults, 0.50 santims for pupils; children under age 6 – free of charge.
