The procedure of nominations for the vacant position of Chairperson of SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” Board closed yesterday, July 19, as SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” Council, pursuant to the results of this open competition, appointed Rinalds Pļavnieks to the position.
SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” Council Chairman Jānis Lange: “When taking the decision on appointing the most suitable candidate as chairperson of the LDz Board, the Council took into account Pļavnieks’ successful performance as a Member of the Board since July 2021 and his strong track record as a Temporary Chairman of the Board, a position that Rinalds Pļavnieks assumed this past February.”
“LDz is currently facing a number of significant changes and challenges, and the company has to fulfil its objectives regardless of the impact of geopolitical circumstances. For the newly appointed Board Chairman, these are challenging objectives that are nevertheless very necessary for stable operation and development of the company: improving management of projects co-financed by the European Union for modernization of the passenger infrastructure, speedy conclusion of a multiannual agreement with the Ministry of Transport on management of the railway infrastructure in public use, improving the internal control system, and others. The open competition for the vacant position of the Chairperson of SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” (LDz) Board was organized in accordance with the procedures set out in Section 31 of the Law on Governance of Capital Shares of a Public Person and Capital Companies and Cabinet Regulation No. 20 of January 7, 2020, Procedure for Nomination of Members of the Management Board and Supervisory Board at Capital Companies in which the State or a Derived Public Person Holds Capital Shares. The competition was announced on March 30, 2023.
A total of 24 (twenty-four) candidates applied for the vacant position of Chairperson of LDz Board. The candidates were assessed in 3 (three) rounds according to evaluation criteria, which were established on the basis of the necessary competences and professional experience requirements.
Currently, the Board of SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” is composed of two persons - Rinalds Pļavnieks is the Chairman of the Board and Vita Balode-Andrews is a Member of the Board.
